TOP 15 DIY PROJECTS USING ROPE

I thought I would share with you some gorgeous ideas on making things from Rope. Yep its amazing how many things you can do with it and its cheap too.

DIY Rope Charger - Alison Strang @ Whimsey Box

Alison Strang shares her lovely design for a Rope Charger. Great if you hate table cloths. Just think of all the endless possibilities for your stencil. Read the tutorial here.

DIY - Nautical Rope Vase - Bayside Bride

This could be a great DIY idea for a bride.. They could double as table settings as well as Wedding Favours. Even let the guests take a small bouquet of flowers home with them. Well maybe 1 per couple. You could even add homemade tags with a cute msg for the guest.  BaysideBride share their tutorial with you on their blog.

Rope Basket (The Knot Bag) - Shigeki Fujishiro

Shigeki Fujishiro is an artist from Japan. I love this design but not sure I can justify the £100 pricetag.
These are available on his site. Might have to get working on a tutorial on how to make these yourself.

DIY Rope Tiered Planter - DesignSponge

This is a lovely idea. However, the practicality of it maybe not so great. you would need to take the plants outside to be watered or you might find it drips onto your floor. you could also attach a tray on the bottom one to stop this from happening.  The how- to for this can be read here.

DIY Folded Dome Rope Pendant Light - Sarah Dorsey

I absolutely love Sarah's blog - her ideas are genius.. Tutorial can be found here.

DIY Rope Bedhead

The tutorial can be found here.  Oooh might have to give something like this a go..

DIY Rope Shelf - Recreatehome.blogspot.com

More details on how to make this kind of shelf is here at her blog.

DIY - Old Rope Swing Upcycled into a shelf

Not sure where to find an exact DIY tutorial for this one but its pretty self explanatory. Either find an old swing or make one yourself and suspend from ceiling. Obviously you need to be aware that if its in a thoroughfare the likelihood of the vases dropping on your floor is quite high. Probably not the most suitable home decor idea for those with children.

Convert an old swing into a bedside table

Again another swing style shelf...

Another Rope Shelf - Amy Hunting

Well again here is another great example of a shelf made with rope and timber blocks from artist Amy Hunting. She is a Norwegian designer based in London.. I love how instead of using glue she has actually dipped the ends into what looks like Sealing Wax. Gives that flash of colour which makes it so appealing against a white wall.

DIY Rope Basket - Esther at Whollykao.com

This is definitely a DIY hack that I am gonna use for my next storage project.
Love the boho feel about it and the idea of adding pops of colour just with the thread, but think it could look equally as good with coloured rope and white nylon thread. You can read the "how-to" here

DIY Rope covered Lampshade - Blog A La Cart

Well this DIY wouldnt be possible without the specially handmade repurposed Rope from Karma Living. You can buy it here at Modcloth. You can also check out the tutorial here. So next time you want to throw out an old lampshade and buy a new one - think again! you can wrap it with some rope or twist the fabric yourself and voila!

DIY Crochet Rope Doily Rug - Esther at Whollykao.com

I have always love knitting, never quite got into crocheting.. You will need a special 'S' size crochet hook. This has got me thinking that i need to get into crocheting - apparently its a lot quicker than knitting. Read the tutorial here.

DIY Macrame Curtain - A Beautiful Mess

This is a fab idea if you have a space that needs a little privacy.. maybe a little office snug or storage snug. Also it features on one of my favourite blogs. they actually inspired me to create this site.. so thank you guys. You can catch the tutorial on their blog.

DIY Rope Bag w/ perspex handles -  Rachel at MCCXXii

This divine litle bag would be great to hang toilet rolls or some handwashing in the laundry.
Tutorial can be found here.

Hope you enjoyed these and got some inspiration for your next DIY project. I certainly did. Check back for my project soon. Would love to know if any of you have done something similar.

  1. Please come up with a tutorial for the knot rope basket! I love that basket. I'm working on making one at home now. I have some rope, but am now trying to determine how the designer spliced the ropes together. I wish I had some more close up pictures.
