DAY OUT WITH THE KIDS // VISIT TO THE KILVER COURT GARDEN NURSERY OPENING

Last week we were invited to come along for the opening of the Kilver Court Garden Nursery and the launch of their brand spanking new Flamingo Island. Yes you heard that correct, Flamingoes in Shepton Mallet. We had one very excited 4 year old that morning who couldn't wait to meet the newest tenants at Kilver Court - George, Ivy, Ken and Olive. If you are thinking about what to do this weekend and in you are in the Somerset area - we highly recommend a visit to Kilver Court Garden Nursery. Theres something for everyone and the kids will thoroughly enjoy the gardens, the flamingoes and the magical statue installations.

Over the past few months the in-laws have been somewhat 'preoccupied' on this new project. Until I came to see it the week before opening - it had only really sunk in what an enormous task they had set themselves. This project has to be one of their most incredibly well executed achievements to date and to see how quickly they turned this around and what they have created is something that makes me incredibly proud of them and how their visions come to life.

Since opening doors at Kilver Court,  Roger has always wanted to create a unique nursery garden.   His and Monty's unconditional love for gardening and their extensive knowledge for plants has meant that they haven't just created any old nursery garden.  Not to mention their keen eye for design and retail which has meant that this nursery is a somewhat unique curation of indoor and outdoor plants, tools, furniture, collectables, and beautiful gifts. With some of the of the best plants, hand picked by Roger himself from some of the most prestigious nurseries across the UK and Monty's keen eye for quality products is what really makes this so special. The highlights in the shop for me were the Copper pitchforks and Spades that would sit proudly on display in anyones garden (who knew copper deters Snugs and snails and is healthy for the soil) beautiful succulents in tin can pots set to complete any 'shelfie' for your home or office and the most beautiful garden accessories like the gorgeous plant climber statues that I have in mind for some sweet peas that I want to plant.

The gorgeous Emma Viscountess Weymouth or Lady Longleat as I like to call her was invited to  cut pink ribbon from the wonderful gondola that Kilver had organised to officially open the Flamingo Island.  Longleat Park kindly allowed Roger to acquire these beautiful birds as part of Montys birthday (I mean who can say they got 4 flamingoes for their birthday) - I thought it was slightly bonkers when we found out out about the birdies, but when he told me the original Showerings family had flamingoes in the Kilver Gardens it really brought back the notion of regeneration and revival. Celebrating the past, breeding new life into the way we interact with the things around us. This is so what Kilver is about. Sustainability and Revival.
"Kilver Court is about restoration, regeneration and renewal - from buildings to brands. I believe that this approach to retailing is what today's consumer is seeking, particularly in the current climate. I call it 'smart shopping with sustainability at its heart" Roger Saul

After they cut the rope, Henry Joanie and I were invited out on the gondola to get a closer look at the Flamingoes. We had a very happy and excited four year old.

There's some more photos over at Tatler too if you fancy a peak.

 Richard (Richi) our gondola driver.

As Henry was being treated in the gift shop by Nanny we sat down by the dovecote and admired the grace of these beautiful birds. Didn't realise how much I loved Flamingoes until now. My love affair for pink might have just been rekindled.

Oscar absolutely smitten with the Flamingoes and was so happy sitting out and watching them.

Someone's very happy about his present from Nanny for being such a good helper today.

After the flamingoes we went for a walk in the gardens to see the new sculptures. I loved the Alice in Wonderland ones.

Whats everyone doing this Easter Weekend? We will be gardening, eating chocolate, easter egg hunting and more gardening.  Topped with long walks, a long sunday roast and celebrating a friends birthday. What more could you want from a long weekend at Easter.

If you are wondering what to do this weekend, I highly recommend a visit to Kilver. There's something for everyone and it may just give you that kick in the bum to get your garden in tip top state.

Happy Easter everyone !
