DRIVEN BY STYLE // STREET STYLE + TREND WATCH // THE COLOURS OF THE SEASON AND HOW TO WEAR THEM

Sure enough, its pretty easy to dress all in black and many of us dare not experiment with patterns and colour. This season we saw some key colour combinations on the street that we feel we all need to try. Its about knowing what colours to bring into your wardrobe and knowing how to layer them. While we all try and hold onto the hope that warmer spring weather is on its way,  we can start bringing in some transitional pieces to see us through to summer and take not of these 3 fabulous colour combinations that are guaranteed to complete your outfits.

Iris Apfel, the queen of colour and layering. With her background as a fashion designer, its clear that she has a good understanding of colour, she completely embraces it and doesn't shy away from vibrant colours.  Her ability to mix her patterns, accessories so effortlessly is what makes her such a style icon.

So how do you layer your colours like a true style icon?

Here are some top colour trends and street style inspiration from this years fashion week and some great outfit ideas for mixing these colours. By mixing the right two colours or dressing head to toe in one colour and throwing in accents of one or two others you are guaranteed success with your outfit.  Take note from Iris Apfel, mix, blend and contrast your look with lots of layering, textures, like fur and suede and a good dose of pattern and print will be the winning element to your look.

BURGUNDY + REDS

This colour looks good on almost everyone and its been a hot colour this season. Its actually one of my favourite colours of all time, maybe thats because I just love a good glass of red especially in the colder months.  It works great as a base colour for your wardrobe and a good place to start if you have a predominantly black wardrobe but want to throw some colour into it. Mix with dark green, camel, black or grey and choose an accent colour like a pastel blue or pink or a bright canary yellow to really catch peoples attention. Suede, leathers and furs are gonna be your standout pieces this season so keep your eye out for delicious burgundy accessories too.

CAMELS + CREAMS
These are again great base colours together but for maximum effect wear them as all in one for your outfit. Top to toe in cream is wonderful but beware of spillages too. You are setting yourself up for disaster if you plan on going out for a meal so best worn during fashion week when there is no time to eat anyways. Or in my case when you are completely kiddy free.

BLUES, TEALS + GREENS

The key to this trend is mixing your blues and greens. Navy with khaki, teal and soft blue, aquamarine and olive green. Its about creating interest in your look and being adventurous.

When I was asked to work on the new 'Driven By Style' campaign for DS 3 I was absolutely thrilled. Iris Apfel has been named ambassador for the French car manufacturer and the content they have produced so far has been really amazing.

I absolutely adore the features of this gorgeous little car such as being able to personalise the colours (exterior and interior) and for only £20 for the year to road tax its one very fuel efficient little car. Perfect for my trips up and down to London for work.

And if you like the colours seen on the streets of this years fashion week then you will be sure to love the colour options on the new DS 3. Pearl White, Ruby Red Metallic, and Ink Blue. Throw in an accent colour like a Emerald or Topaz roof and you have yourself one very fashionable ride.

New DS 3 and New DS 3 Cabrio make a winning formula even better.Designed with a clean new look the car is the automotive embodiment of Parisian chic. Beneath its stylish exterior New DS 3 is built on the DS foundations of technology, refinement and attention to detail. From DS LED vision headlights through to 7" touch screen and mirror screen, the car is full of technology to make life easy. Watchstrap design leather seats is an example of the refinement in New DS 3, ensuring that our most compact car meets the exacting standards we demand of every DS.  It's also a car with a
multitude of options to personalize so the the owner can make the car their very own style statement.

Personally I love print and colour, I just need to learn to be a bit more bold with it. Alecsandra shot me on my way to a show in Soho. I picked this colourful and cheerful pleated Paul Smith skirt up at their sample sale at Kilver Court and its the perfect dress for a night out or at a wedding with the way it swirls when you walk. Its funny how a little print and colour can instantly brighten your mood. Burgundy and Teals/Greens/Aquas are definitely high up on my favourite colour list so will definitely be keeping my eye out for striking pieces in those colours.
