Exclusive to the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, Collette Dinnigan: Unlaced is the first exhibition to explore the work of this internationally acclaimed Australian fashion designer.
Featuring ensembles, accessories and archival material from the Museum’s collection and Dinnigan’s personal archive, this exhibition presents her signature lace and embellished designs in a series of striking themed sets.
Realised by Anna Tregloan, an award-winning stage designer and artist, the scenes bring into focus Dinnigan’s unique creative perspective; they highlight the romantic, feminine designs that have seen her work sought after by a star-studded clientele including Taylor Swift, Dita Von Teese and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.
Collette Dinnigan is what I would call a cult Australian Fashion Designer, although originally from South Africa, her presence in the Australian market during her 25 year long career has set a benchmark for originality and a more international aesthetic. Through this, she has managed to maintain International status ever since she started showing in Paris in 1995.
If you are around the area and enjoy looking at beautiful clothes then I would highly recommend a visit. 'Unlaced' will be on display until the 28th August 2016.
Gorgeous paper craft got me thinking I might like to recreate these. Another DIY project to add to the list. ;)
All her patterns on display. I thought this was a brilliant addition by Anna Tregloan.
My favourite part of the exhibition was seeing Colette's design process in her mood boards. Each intricate detail on these boards, each little trinket, fabric remnant, memorabilia collected lovingly showed pure dedication and love in what she does. It was so inspiring. It also reminded me of why I used to collect all my little tickets, pieces I had found and how much I enjoyed working on my diary when I was an art student. Didn't make me feel like such a hoarder afterall ;)
Finishing off the exhibition with a table full of templates and coloured pencils. Not hard to feel inspired.
